How to make Black – 3 Different ways to make the Colour

How to make Black? The most common colour used in daily life in numerous projects or other things is Black colour and sometimes there is that time when you need black and you don’t have it.

Black colour can easily be made with mixing of other colours like red, green and yellow colours with the same proportion of both. Complementary colours which are the opposite of each other on the table can also be mixed together to make the black colour.

How to make Black: 1st Method

You can make black colour by mixing together red, blue and yellow colour, although the final colour is not exactly black it is almost identical to the black colour.

You have to use the same amount of each colour.

Soft Black: Using the following  colours, the final result is a soft black colour

  • Aureolin
  • Rose Madder Genuine
  • Cobalt Blue

Bold Black: Using the following  colours, the final result is a Bold black colour

  • Winsor Yellow
  • Permanent Alizarin Crimson
  • Winsor Blue

Put the same amount of each colour on a colour plate, you can use more amount of the darker colours to make a shade in the black colour and sometimes it looks very good.

The main thing is the amount of colour and once you did it the first time, you will remember it the next time.

How to make Black: 2nd Method

The 2nd method uses complementary colours to make the black colour and these colours are opposite of each other in the colour wheel. There are different combinations of the complementary colours that can be used and they are given below

Red and Green: On the colour wheel, red and green are the colours opposite to each other, combining an equal amount of these colours can bring the final result in black colour and you can use the amount depending upon how you want the black colour to look.

For simple black, you can combine the following colours

  • Phthalo Green
  • Naphthol Red

Blue and Orange: Blue and orange colours can be combined together to get the black colour, make sure you have an equal amount of both colours.

Put them on a plate and use a paintbrush for about 20-30 seconds and you will get the desired colour.

Yellow and Purple: Yellow and purple are both opposites of each other so are complementary colours and they can be mixed together in the right amount to make the black colour.

How to make Black: 3rd Method

The Black colour can also be made by mixing three shades of blue and brown and they are given below

  • Ultramarine Blue
  • Burnet Umber
  • Prussian Blue

First, start with ultramarine blue with Burnet Umber which is a shade of brown colour.

Put the same amount of both colours on the plate and start mixing with the help of a paintbrush.

When you have a dark colour, add a little bit of Prussian blue colour and mix it further until you get a solid black colour.
